Smart Infraco Advances Digital Infrastructure and Innovation at National ICT Week 2026
Smart Infraco reaffirmed its commitment to advancing Ghana’s digital transformation through its active participation in the 2026 National ICT Week celebrations, held from 17th –20th August 2026 at the CEDI Conference Centre, University of Ghana.
Organised by the National Information Technology Agency (NITA) under the theme, “Innovation at Scale: Creating Opportunities Across Ghana’s Digital Ecosystem,” the four-day event brought together government institutions, technology companies, industry professionals, academia, innovators and development partners to discuss the future of Ghana’s digital economy.
As an official sponsor of National ICT Week 2026, Smart Infraco contributed to the event through thought leadership, industry engagement and the exhibition of its digital infrastructure solutions.
Building the Infrastructure for Digital Transformation
During the event, Smart Infraco’s Head of Sales and Commercial, Alfred Nkrow, delivered a presentation on how organisations can use the right digital infrastructure to support growth, efficiency and innovation.
He highlighted the importance of selecting technology based on an organisation’s operational requirements and long-term objectives, rather than forcing business operations to adapt to unsuitable technology.
Mr Nkrow outlined some of the challenges affecting digital adoption, including high infrastructure costs, unstable connectivity, cybersecurity threats, limited scalability and the increasing complexity of modern ICT environments.
He also presented Smart Infraco’s role in addressing these challenges through reliable connectivity, cloud computing, colocation, managed infrastructure and access to the National Data Centre.
The presentation highlighted the strength of Ghana’s national digital infrastructure, including the national fibre backbone and the upgrade of the Eastern Corridor fibre network to 100Gbps. These investments are helping to provide the capacity required by government institutions, businesses, technology providers and communities across the country.
Mr Nkrow encouraged organisations to reconsider the financial and operational burden of maintaining small in-house data centres where more secure and scalable alternatives are available.
Through the National Data Centre, organisations can access infrastructure supported by multiple power sources, including the national grid, standby generators and solar power. They can also benefit from scalable computing resources, cloud services, colocation, backup and disaster-recovery options without incurring the full cost of building and managing their own facilities.
Speaking about the relationship between people and emerging technologies, Mr Nkrow explained that artificial intelligence should enhance human capabilities rather than replace employees.
“AI is not taking away the human job. It is helping the human to become more efficient,” he noted during the interactive session.
His presentation concluded with an engaging question-and-answer session, allowing participants to learn more about data-centre resilience, infrastructure scalability, cloud migration, cybersecurity and the technical support available to organisations embarking on their digital transformation journeys.
Powering Ghana’s Digital Economy
Smart Infraco’s Chief Technology Officer, Michael Kwablah, also participated in an executive panel discussion on “Powering Ghana’s Digital Economy: Building the Digital Capabilities for Innovation at Scale.”
The panel brought together representatives from the telecommunications industry, government, national digital infrastructure providers and international development organisations.
Discussions focused on the practical actions, partnerships and investments Ghana must pursue over the next five years to develop indigenous technology, strengthen digital sovereignty, secure national infrastructure and build the capacity required for artificial intelligence.
During the discussion, Mr Kwablah highlighted the progress Ghana has made in developing foundational digital infrastructure while drawing attention to areas requiring further investment.
He emphasised the need to expand data-centre infrastructure beyond Accra and Kumasi to improve geographic resilience and ensure continuity in the event of a major disruption. He also discussed the significant computing, cooling and power requirements associated with artificial intelligence and other data-intensive applications.
Mr Kwablah noted that Ghana already has important foundations on which to build, including certified data centres, national fibre infrastructure, cybersecurity capabilities and digital-skills initiatives. However, additional investment will be required in regional data centres, reliable energy, high-performance computing, fibre connectivity, data governance and technology hubs.
He further underscored the importance of creating more platforms where young developers, startups, academic institutions and established technology companies can collaborate to develop and scale locally relevant solutions.
Engaging Stakeholders at the Smart Infraco Booth
Beyond the speaking sessions, the Smart Infraco exhibition booth served as an important engagement point throughout the week.
The team interacted with representatives from government agencies, private companies, startups, technology professionals, students and other event participants. These conversations provided an opportunity to better understand the infrastructure challenges faced by organisations and demonstrate how Smart Infraco’s solutions can support their digital ambitions.
Visitors learned about the company’s connectivity, cloud, colocation, data-centre, cybersecurity and managed infrastructure services. The booth also provided a platform for discussions on data sovereignty, business continuity, cybersecurity, cloud migration and the value of hosting critical information within Ghana.
The level of interest and engagement demonstrated the growing demand for reliable, secure and locally supported digital infrastructure.
